When are teacher conferences and how do I schedule them?

Middle School conferences are held in mid November. SRMS will send an email communication to all SRMS families in late October with instructions for how to schedule the conferences online (please note: do not wait to sign up as there are a limited number of slots for parent/teacher conferences).  Your conference time will be with your child’s team teachers together. World languages, music, art, etc. are separate appointments.

Please note that you can communicate with your children’s teachers at any time and do not have to wait for conferences if there is something you would like to discuss.

What is “advisory” (also called “Star Days”)?

All middle school students are part of the Advisory program at SRMS.  When they enter SRMS, each student is assigned to an advisory group of about 12 students in the same grade  plus a teacher/staff member.  The group stays together throughout their time at SRMS.  Topics discussed vary by grade and are determined over the summer by the collective group of advisors for the relevant grade, although there is flexibility for current events.  Advisory is meant as discussion time for the students and is not graded, nor is there homework.  The purpose is to provide a forum for the students to decompress and create connections with each other, and form a connection with another adult at SRMS (their advisor)

What is the Morning Show?

The Morning Show is an in-house live production that is shown at the opening of each day at SRMS.  It is filmed in the green room in the SRMS Library.  8th grade students can sign up for 2 week stints as co-anchors of the morning show.  Other students can be involved behind the camera with production help, or in special segments during the show.  The show delivers morning announcements and other special segments.

Do I need to send in a pass for my child to ride a different bus home with another student?

Yes - Students going home on a different bus or getting off at a different stop need to have the exception entered into School Dismissal Manager. Choose the bus number and enter the friend's name.

Students being picked up at dismissal (2:50 p.m.), whether by the parent or a designee, can be also be logged in School Dismissal Manager

My child has a doctor's appointment during the school day, or I need to pick my child up early before the 2:50 dismissal. How do I sign him/her out?

Please submit your intended pick-up time to the School Dismissal Manager to make the school aware. You will need to stop at the front desk for security check-in. Please have your ID ready and allow extra time for your child to stop at their locker.

If the child returns to school the same day, they should go to the Attendance Office to check in and obtain a pass to go to class.

My child wants to walk home after school, or over the high school to meet a sibling.  Do I need a note?

In order to ensure the safety of our students, we ask that you provide written permission for your child to walk to/from school.  This also includes students who may walk to/from Ridgefield High School to meet a sibling.  Whether it’s on a regular or occasional basis, students are not permitted to walk without written consent from their legal guardian.

My child is late for school.  How do they sign in?

If your child is going to be tardy to school, please enter it in School Dismissal Manager.

If your child is late for school, they must sign in with the Attendance Office before going to homeroom or class.

My child is sick and will be absent.  How do I let the school know?

If your child is going to be absent, please submit via School Dismissal Manager

Students are considered absent for the day any time arriving after 11:30 a.m.

When your child is home sick, they should rest. If they are up to working, they can check Google Classroom and do what they can.

What is the alternating daily schedule?

Two-Day Cycle: This may sound confusing at first, but it is how we organize our schedule. We start the first day of school on Day A, and the following day is a Day B. Then we start on Day A again. This cycle determines what special subjects (P.E., music, etc.) you will have each day.

What is the daily bell schedule?

The 2021-22 SRMS Regular Bell Schedule includes Early Dismissals and Delays.

My child left a book in their locker - can I get it after school?

Yes.
